Long time no post

Image

It has been awhile since I have had a post on here and I am hoping to be better at posting more often.

Awhile back I told you about this website I found that has a project called 52 lists. I have been collecting the lists ideas but have not made my list yet. Well there is no time like the present to start. I may post more than one list at a time just to play catch up. Feel free to include things from your own list here or leave a link to a list you have made. One more thing before I start my first list. Mooreaseal is running a little behind on her posting of the new topics so if you go to her website and think you can’t find something recent just be patient as she will get them posted soon. Here is the link to her 52 Lists Project. http://www.moorea-seal.com/p/52-lists.html *My lists are in no particular order. Enjoy.

Are you a list maker?

ImageI love to make lists for lots of different things. I have lists of books I want to read, list of books I need to review, what to take when I am going on a trip, what groceries to buy, what we are having for supper this week, well you get the picture.

There are many different reasons you can make a list – the most popular reason being so we don’t forget something. You can also make lists to help relieve stress, give you a goal to work towards or to help you to be more organized.

I have a book that I think is a fun way to make lists – it is listography, they have many different versions of their book and even have a website to make your own list. Here is the link http://listography.com/ Be sure to check out their list of books and find one that is right for you.

I have found this new website that I love and have been following each week. It is http://www.moorea-seal.com/p/52-lists.html. She does a great job on her blog. The part of her blog that I love the most is the 52 Lists project. Each week she gives you a topic on which you will make your list, provides you with a downloadable page to make your list on and her reason for using the subject. Many people link up their list to the page each week so you can get some fun ideas from others. I like this because it is a fun way to find out more about yourself. I encourage you to all join in and do your own 52 lists, it is never to late to start.

ImagePersonally I am going to use the 52 Lists Project to help me think of things good in my which in turn can help me with the positive thinking. I also am starting a list today of my top 13 things that make me happy. This is the first step I need to do in my book The Happiness Handbook.

So are you a list maker? What are some reasons you make a list? Is there a list you would like to share with us? Good luck and have fun joining in on the 52 Lists Project.

What Makes You Happy?

Lately it seems I have felt a little down and could use a pick me up. I can cry at the drop of a hat, Scott and I bicker, I feel as if everything I do is wrong and people are always upset with me. So I found this book and thought oh maybe this will help me. I am now in the process of reading it; it is called The Happiness Handbook by Jenn Flaa and the first thing the book asks is: What makes you happy?

When I first read this I had to stop and think what really makes me happy and I am still thinking, the first thing came to mind for me was the random text messages Scott used to send me during the day.  Scott used to send me funny little texts sometimes and when I would get them, I would smile and they would help to make my day better. Here lately those texts have stopped and I don’t think he realizes how much they meant to me. Last night I told him about it so we shall see.

Another thing that makes me happy is when my kids do things around the house without being asked or if I do ask they do them without complaining. Sometimes kids don’t realize that the complaining gets to you after awhile. How about the phone calls with my nieces and nephews they make me smile and sometimes laugh a little. I also enjoy thinking of memories of family that are no longer with us.

When you stop and think about it you must remember the small things that make you happy not just dwell on what makes you sad or angry. I know for me sometimes this is easier said than done.  I am hoping by reading this book it will help me to see and do things a little easier and keep me on the track to being a happier person.

What are some things in your life that make you happy?

Memories of Melva

Image

Melva

A little over a week ago we lost my great Aunt Melva and it got me to thinking of days gone by. I remember going to Vermillion so see Melva, John, Ruby and Ted, as kids and adults we used to look forward to going there. Even though there were no toys for us to play with as kids we still enjoyed going there. She would tell us stories of our family and you could just sit and listen to her for hours. I think her and her sister Ruby’s favorite word is/was “honestly”. Ruby is still with us and I hope to visit her again and listen to more stories. They both use that word so much that I can hear them saying that right now. I can even hear Melva’s laugh and her telling the story of my mom saying “neva mind” when she was little. Melva was crippled by polio when she was very young but that did not stop her from being a go getter. She had many friends in the town she lived and and will be missed by everyone who has ever met her. Another story that she liked to tell my kids when we would go see her is the story of when my daughter Rachel fell down her stairs and my dad jumped up to go rescue her. Melva also loved to get fried chicken from Toby’s, so sometimes we would make sure to get her some. It was fun to watch her eat a chicken leg as she would lick that bone clean and make sure she got all the meat from it. I remember a time when John (her husband) took us out to their farm to look around. I had so much fun that day and could have taken home so much stuff that most would call junk, but dad, John and I had fun that day. I like telling people that she was my little Norweigan aunt but her personality made her anything but small. Melva will have lots of stories to tell in Heaven and I know John was there to greet her with open arms. Until I see you again Melva – I will cherish your memories.
